WHERE IS THE EVENT TAKING PLACE?

  • The location for the event is Carl E. Nielsen Youth Park at 9100 Jenny Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045

 

WHEN IS THE EVENT HAPPENING?

  • The event starts at 7AM and wraps at 2:15PM on May 6, 2017. But, there are two shifts available for volunteering: the first from, 7AM to 11AM and the second from 11AM to 2:15PM. On our RSVP page, you are able to choose which shift you are able to join us for.

 

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

  • Diversity and inclusivity have always been cornerstones of Los Angeles culture. People from 140 countries who speak more than 224 different languages currently call L.A. home, and this community has consistently rolled out the red carpet for visitors from across the globe. There has never been a more important time to underscore these points.

 

WHAT IS THE PARKING SITUATION AT THE EVENT?

  • Free parking will be provided to all participants at Lot C (of LAX). From this location, participants will be guided over the short walking distance to the location of the event.  No parking in the surrounding neighborhoods of the park is permitted.

 

WHAT KIND OF CLOTHING SHOULD I WEAR?

  • Dress comfortably! Avoid any branding on your clothing and bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen if you wish as the event is entirely outdoors.

WILL THERE BE ANY ENTERTAINMENT?

  • This will be a family-friendly environment with music and a DJ, all in accordance with the overall guidelines and sound restrictions of the surrounding neighborhoods. There will be no use of amplified sound or speaker systems. All entertainment, music and communication for the coordination of the event will be handled through headsets for each participants. Food and refreshments will also be provided.

 

WHY IS THE AGE OF THE VOLUNTEER IMPORTANT TO KNOW?

  • Although the event will feature a family friendly environment and we encourage you to bring family and friends of all ages, an aspect of the event will have a height requirement which will make it unlikely that children under the age of 12 would be able to participate.

 

WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK-IN PROCESS?

  • As soon as you arrive on site, go straight to your assigned check-in information.

  • Go to your station (based on your last name initial) to get further instructions for the day!

 

CAN I BRING MORE PEOPLE WITH ME?

  • You are more than welcome (and we encourage you!) to invite friends and family to join you for the day. But, be sure each person you invite RSVPs through our website, discoverlosangeles.com/everyoneiswelcome.

 

AM I GOING TO APPEAR ON VIDEO OR IN PHOTOS FROM THE DAY?

  • By RSVPing to the event, you acknowledge that you might appear in any of the videos or pictures taken during the event.

 

IS THERE GOING TO BE FOOD?

  • Yes!  Food and refreshments will be provided.

 

ARE THERE RESTROOMS AT THE EVENT?

  • Yes, there will be mobile toilets around the event space for use. ​

 

WHAT'S THE IMPACT OF TOURISM IN LOS ANGELES?

Visitors to Los Angeles injected $20.6 billion into the local economy in 2015, while hotel visitors generated $235 million in transient-occupancy tax collections for the City of Los Angeles. By helping to create one of the largest human welcome signs in history, participants will also be eligible for priority consideration for volunteer opportunities at the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.                                                                                                                                                                                                  The LA 2024 Volunteer Service Program spotlights opportunities in 2017 for Angelenos to make a difference in their communities through volunteer work and community service with the bid and its community partners.
